I have a 1975 f100 supercab w\short bed that is a explorer (like xlt etc.) it has the small jump seats that fold up on the side of the cab. I was gonna take the cab off and put it on my 79 4x4 but was told not too that there not many of these are around. can you all help. thank you in advance.
The Explorer Models of the late 60's the 70's and early 80's were Fords limited edition vehicle line, mostly for pickup trucks, but was also applied to Broncos, and Rancheros, of the 70's. Usually they had a limited run and special paint and interior colors and schemes that changed year to year. A 1973 Explorer has a different stripe than a 75 and the 76 was different than the 75, etc...
The 75 Explorer pickups have some unique features that the other 75 trucks didn't have. they are also unique compared to other Explorer Pickups of other years.
The 75 Explorer has the unique to 75, "explorer over world" hood ornament, and has a unique pinstripe just for it's year. It also should have wheellip moldings, explorer emblems, and "Mag" style, Wheel Covers. They also come in unique special paint colors, and interior trim, and seat cover designs.
If none of that stuff is intact on your truck, then it being an Explorer wouldn't make that much difference in price compared to a normal 75 pickup etc.
A fully restored stock 1975 Explorer Pickup, especially in a extended cab and short bed, would be considered rare, and more desireable, than a fully restored stock 1975 custom, at car shows etc...
But a "tricked out" 1975 Custom street rod could still win best of show.
as walerron said above, build what you would be happy with. I would personally rebuild the 1975 explorer as stock, and show her. I would be happy with that, but you may not be. Hope this helps.
thanks guys, 81-f-150-explorer my truck has all that you said with the orginal hub caps. think i'll keep her together and work on her as a whole nother project. thanks guys
