slave cylinder question

Hello all, I came home this evening and my clutch peddle felt wierd so I checked the transmission master cylinder it was quite low so I filled it but my question is I think my slave cylinder might be shot(after all its got to be leaking somewhere)In my chilton manual it says that there is an external slave cylinder and an internal one does any one know which I would have? Its a 97 f150 4.6 4x4.And about how much to fix at a shop not sure I can do this myself. Thanks in advance for your help.

It is easy to check, follow the clutch master cyinder line down to the transmission, if the line goes into the bell housing then it is an internal one, if the line goes to to the outside cylinder hooked to the back of the clutch fork then you have a outsied one. If you have a out side one it is very easy to do, just unbolt and discconct the line then reinstall if you have the inside one then the transmission has to be removed. big money and lots of battles like removing the torsion bars.

check for leaks, coming out of the bottom of the bell housing. if it gets to bad it will get on your clutch disc and maybe ruin it. Since you are going to look for a shop to change it I have a question when was the last time the clutch was changed? since they are in there then you might as well change it if it's been a while instead of it going in the future and you having to do it all again.
