Production dates???

I have a 98 ranger 2.5 automatic 2wd. My problem is with the production dates of the truck and the engine. The production sticker on the inside of the drivers door says the truck was produced on 11/97, and the sticker on the front of the timing belt cover says the engine was produced on 3/10/98. So my question is how can the engine be produced at a later time than when the truck rolled off the assembly line, I am thinking it may be a different engine than what originally came in the truck. It was in a wreck before I bought it so that might have something to do with it. Any of your ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

The chances that there are swapped body parts on your vehicle is likely, but also, they may have made the vehicle prior to the motor. The date on the timing chain cover might be when the two were put together. You can also consider that someone may have blown up the motor and swapped in another motor. I would like to believe my first theory, but you never know what kind of abuse a used vehicle has gone through.

Thanks for the advice, I have known the truck since it had 30,000 miles on it and I was curious why the 2 dates were different.
