About a year ago I bought a 92 Ford motor home for a trip to Alaska. The old girl ran great , 460 and e4OD trans. About a thousand miles into the trip, the engine slowly began to lose power, over about a day it went from power house to 5 mph on the side of the road, then finally to zero mph and dead. Towed to Ford dealer in St George, BC. they diagnosed clogged cat. I never realised that could happen but they said it was common.
I thought symptoms indicated clogged fuel filter. Anyway, keep this wierd one in mind.
I believe that would be Prince George BC
I live about 350 miles west of there.
Anyway.... Plugged catalytic convertors were very common on the 460s. I've replaced lots of them and also hollowed out some to get vehicles going again.
It is true. Sometimes it is from too much fuel or oil, maybe even antifreeze entering the exhaust, other times the catalyst breaks and plugs stuff up. Sorry for your trouble, hopefully it didn't hurt your pocketbook too badly.
