I read a post pertaining to the overdrive cancel switch on the shifter. I have a 1997 f-150 4x4 auto 4.6L. The fuse keeps blowing and its linked to my gauge cluster tach, speedometer..... Do I replace the switch or should I check the wire(s) first. Any hints or knowledge will get me further than I am. I have already taken the covers and ignition lock off but I dont see any damage to the wire, its taped still and doesnt feel broken. Could it be broken inside the shifter itself? Any ideas where to go next... wiring in general scares me.
Wondering if you find a fix for the overdrive fuse? I have a 2003 that is blowing the 5 amp fuse for seatbelt minder, auto headlights and overdrive button. Any ideas ??
The overdrive button has a wire that runs along the top of the steering column and up thru the shifter. The wire can fray over time where it rubs before entering the shifter arm. Remove the covers and you will be able to see if the wires are bare and shorting out.
Mine only would blow the fuse when I actually pressed the button. If overdrive is on, then it should not blow the fuse. Turning it off applies power to the little LED in there that lights up. That is what was blowing my fuse.
Does yours do it when you turn OD off or all the time?

I thought it was maybe the Seat Belt Minder as I have had it working jumped out of the truck and came back and the fuse would be blown. But I did notice that the same fuse supports the automatic head lights as well.
