I have an 85 6.9 f350 dually that pours oil out of the back of the engine. I just bought this truck and have been blind sided. i couldn't drive it because the tires were so bad that I would'nt dare. (BUYER BEWARE). My own fault. Anyway I own it. I got it home and discovered all kinds of problems. The owner asured me that it had a new Jasper engine with 15k on it but could'nt produce paper work. Is this a typical problem. It looks to me like the rear main seal. Do I just replace the seal or is there a sleeve that should be replaced? Also it has a 4spd with 410's and runs high RPM'S. I think this is a contributing factor. I would love to find a five spd for it and this would be the time to do it. Oh yeah it's a roll back and need a pto provision. I haul junk cars and if I don't fix this, someone will be hauling mine. I think this truck has potential but I need some help. I've always worked on gas burners. Thanks.
Make sure the oil level is not too high. Also climb up in the engine compartment and with a flashlight, really look the back of the intake manifold, the valve covers, and any oil pressure sensors that may be back there. There are lots of places for it to leak and run down the back of the block, and look like a rear main leak. If it's leaking that fast, the area it's leaking will look very clean.
