Thank you for checking the thread and posting my VIN info, Dennis. I do have one question that you or someone else might be able to answer: My '74 HighBoy has the glove box emblem of 'Custom' on it. The side mirrors are the large 'elephant ear' mirrors, that mount above and below the side windows. Being that the mirrors are the type they are, I was wondering if this truck might be a camper special hybrid of some sort? Nothing special, but perhaps a factory screwup. :-)
Thanks for the de-code....I am surprised as I have a 351m with a granny first gear manual trans...someone did a lot of wrenchin on this truck..this should show anyone who is considering this swap that it is feasible (spellcheck?)...
I've looked for them on other trucks, but I can't seem to find them. I actually just went and browsed thru the user gallery again before I posted. So, here's a picture of my truck with the 'ears':

I was hoping to not post a picture of it until I was done with the restoration, but there it is. It seems to me that those mirrors would be great for towing something.. but boy are they ugly. ;-)
The mirrors in the picture above are made by Ford and even have the little Ford logo stamped in the sheetmetal that backs the mirror. I'm pretty sure that these mirrors came stock on this rig as well but I'm not 100% sure. The truck was bought new in '74 and then a few months later, the original owner had to get rid of it for financial reasons. In early '75, my father obtained it, and then myself. Heh, he called me one day and told me he was going to sell it.. over my dead body he was. I was raised in that rig and I wasn't about to watch it be sold. I'm 33 now and I can still remember the day my dad brought it home. I swear it was the biggest truck I had ever seen.
The mirrors you have is called extended arm Western mirrors. Those mirrors are inculdeded with the factory camper special or trailer special. It could be ordered with that option without the camper/trailer package.
Thanks for the correct description Jermafenser! My next task is to find electric mirrors that will mount up to my '74. Anyone know what year they started making electric mirrors? I read somewhere that it might be 1980, but looking through Motorhaven's site, I come up with ziltch. I really want to stay with a mirror made by Ford, even if it means I have to fabricate a baseplate or something.
