Dont just loosen the bolt to remove the shifter. You need to remove the bolt entirely.

If you are talking about the 4x4 shifter mine had 2 small screws that held it in. Remove them both completely and then pull it straight up to get it off. The bottom of the shifter handle has a slot machined in it the the part coming out of the transfercase fits into. It is almost like a dovetail but the sides are square. But you must remove the 2 screws/bolts completly to get it off. That is assuming that they didn't change the design from 91 to 94.

does the bolt screw out or just slide out?

I got er done. jus bent the shifter and bolted it back in place. easy easy easy

When I put the 3" body lift in my truck, I welded in 3" extensions on both the transfer case and tranny shifters. It looks like it came from the factory that way. The boots tend to bind when they get pushed down 3".
