Mileage/Problems

I am on the verge of buying a 2000 Ford F250 w/7.3 Diesel. It has 150,000 miles on it. I am looking for input form the community.
1. What kind of fuel mileage should I expect? (city/Highway)
2. are there any inherent mechanical problems in that year/model mix that I can expect?
3. is there a year/model combination that i should probably look into rather than the one I am interested in?
4. How does the newer 6.0L engine compare to the 7.3?

For a start - welcome to the site!

1. What I would honestly expect: 14-15city, 15-18highway
2. Not really, the aut tranny might need a rebuid though with those miles (and it could be time to upgrade to a slightly stronger unit)
3. Not really, that is one of the strongest trucks out there.
4. Pretty well, but early ones had a few issues, plus they are likely a fair bit more expensive compared to the truck you are looking at.

Welcome to the diesel boards polocoachkevin

1. I agree with BigF350
2. Cam sensor failure is pretty common, but it's an easy repair. If it's an automatic transmission it can be hit and miss, but mostly they're pretty reliable when the engine has been kept stock. The six-speed manual is almost bulletproof.
3. Heck no.
4. The 6.0 makes better top end power, but it lacks the stump pulling grunt of it's bigger sibling.

4. i concur with cookie88, i would also like to add that the 6.0 didnt have and will never have the legendary status that the 7.3 has. the longevity overall on the 6.0's is poor compared to a 7.3
