i need to replace my brake booster in my 77 f250 highboy, and i want to use the f350 booster/mc. which booster should i use? 77, 78, 79? does it matter? does the fact that i have a highboy matter? also is the proportioning valve need to be swapped with an f350 valve? thanks for the help!
I just finished the swap your talking about last week. I have a 1977.5 F250 4x4. I went to my local Autozone and got a 1978 F350 2WD booster with MC attached for $99. It bolted up perfect. A-1 Cardone brand.
My only mod was to clip off the old flare nuts from my original brake lines and put on new ones that match the new MC. The F350 MC uses 1/4" and 3"16 thread nuts. NAPA auto parts sells all the flare nuts and sizes you will need, cheap.
Its that easy. No need to change anything else. If you want to do some more research, try the Advance Auto parts website, look up the parts, then click on the photo option. The photos help to ID the exact part.

I plan to do the swap in the next couple of months.
Since my brakes were a mess before, its hard to give an accurate comparison. If you compare the two boosters, its clear to see the difference in hardware.
i do not have cruise control. so a 78 booster will work even though i have an early 77? my brakes are a total mess right now. they just barely stop the truck. i want to replace everything as soon as i get the money! any idea on the proportioning valve? did you use an f350 one or the stock one?
