I went to change the transfer case fluid on my 1995 F150 for the first time (I am the original owner). I took out the fill plug first to check where the fluid was before I drained it. I was surprised when oil gushed out of the fill hole and onto my garage floor!
There were about four quarts total that I removed from the transfer case. The owners manual states the fill capacity is two quarts. When I refilled the transfer case, fluid started dribbling out of the fill hole just as I finished putting the second quart in.
I am confused as to how the extra fluid got into the transfer case. It could have been over filled from the factory. I thought that maybe it could have come from the automatic transmission if the seal between the two units was bad.
