cruise INOP
cruise.. INOP
vaccume line ..ok,
fuse.. ok
related to malfunctioning tach???
tach barley goes over 1k and bounces arround under there...
checked/ cleaned sensor not much to that to go wrong...
instrument cluster??
if so, how do you get those wiper and light control ***** off???
Has much older Banks system on it not sure if Pyro gauge is working, it never moves,
any ideas for repair?
how can i add a boost guage?
finally.. i get about 190 miles from the front tank full.. is that horrible espicaly from turbo..
that was mostly highway spped under 60 mph usually 55 ish or less
i was VERY gentile on the pedal..
i dont know what else to do..
please see sig for truck info..
thanks for all your help i tryung to see if this truck is worth putting $$$ into.
the ***** have a little notch in the back....there is a piece of metal that needs to be pulled toward the seat with a small hook to release it. I made mine out of welding rod.
Pyrometer, if it has power my next guess would be the thermocouple is either shorted or has died.
Not sure on the Banks system, is there a plug in the plumbing between the turbo and intake snail you can remove to install the boost gauge line into?
190 miles out of 17 gallons tank capacity is not bad for a C6 transmission.
That figures out at over 11 MPG if you ran it clear dry in the front tank.
My 4 speed is only slightly better, I am at about 12 MPG average in the WV mountains.
I have 3.55's and 33" tires, 2550 RPM to cruise 70 MPH does suck the fuel.
If you have 3.55's and are running 235/85-16 tires I figure you are at 2250 RPM at 60 MPH. This is to much RPM for good mileage.
4.10's would put you at 2700 at 60 MPH.
That is way to many RPM's for good mileage.
Also you have to remember you are probably a little over 7000 pounds of truck when it is empty, that is two cars worth of weight you are dragging down the road.
We both need overdrive to get the bigger MPG numbers.

190 miles from a tank of fuel is pretty good. my 88 4X4 gets around 120 miles/tank, but then i have the 7.3 motor, and weight is 9,200 lbs.
thanks for the **** info ill try it with mabey a coat hanger..
dont know if the pyro has power.. how check / test gauge??
looks the thermocouple is out i cant get acess back there..

thats pretty bad when im already down to 55/60 on the freeway
and i havent even tried arround town driving!!
Milage, id expectd better with a turbo, and babying pedal...
of course i have no idea what RPM's due to broken tach...
i just read about guy with similar setup as me getting in upper teens!! i PM him heh
my top speed is only 80 (my only way of measuring power) with lots of smoke in mirror at night.
weight is 6500 lbs w/ 2 people, 2 full tanks, really old large old canopy (aluminum/ wood) acording to scales
TJC... thanks for you imput i dont have sidewinder mine is realy old has large square black metal box say banks on it . so i would put the presure sensor in that box??
i dont have any way to monitor safety or stastus w/o pyro, Tach, or boost gauge to try any mods i got to get those fixed.. and far worse milage than the 350 chev it replaces and no tradeoff in power
if i cant get these things fixed reasonably cheap it will be selling time yet again.. i WANT to keep this truck!
thanks guys im stil trying heh
I have a dump bed, 2 under bed tool boxes that are usually full, oversized fuel tanks 66 gallons when full, class 5 reciever and snow plow subframe on mine, weighs 7860 without me in the truck.
Since you can turn more fuel to the engine with the turbo, it has the potential to drop the mileage if you use the extra power the turbo provides.
Several things enter into the fuel mileage that most people do not consider.
Terain and altitude play a big part.
Driving style is probably the biggest part.
Truck configuration with equipment installed.
Normal cargo you carry with you.
How accurate your speedometer is.
How accurate your fuel consumption figures are.
Till I figured out my speedometer was off, I thought I was getting about 17 with mine.
But when I started saving every fuel reciept and writing the mileage on it when I bought the fuel, then entering it into a spreadsheet and got the speedometer reading right I found out I was really in the low teens with mileage for an average.
Considering what I do with my truck I am very happy with that mileage. I also know what it would take to improve the mileage considerably, overdrive.
I drive a 2000 Dodge 5.9 six speed company truck often. The Dodge boys all brag about the high mileage the 5.9 Dodge gets. Several weeks ago I ran two tanks of fuel through it and had fuel reciepts to figure the mileage off of. 13.5 MPG is what I saw when I figured it the same way I figure my Ford mileage. So it must be my driving style, right?
i found out my fuel gauge is off by about 1/4 tank (when topped off, it reads little over 3/4) i filled it when dead on E, it took 13.4 gal. for 170 miles. (babied under 60) with tires at 50 PSI. i will be inflating to 85 psi (factory size)
i can relate on the dodge thing my dad says his get about upper teens to low 20's 6sp man while towing, has power pack on his 03 diesel. bla bla bla .. yea ok your soo great hehe..anyway..
TJC, i couple dot find any place that might have a plug or somewhere to install a gauge.. maby thats why the first owner didnt have it installed??
i did however find the braided silver wire the pyro splices into.. THINK my gauge is defective not sure.. what whould it be at with no load driving about 55,?? it always sits just under 100 even when its cold. ( original banks gauge) do they wear out?
and yes i can just BARLEY get my skinny arms all the way to the coupler but not actualy do anything if i needed heh no room!
thanks again guys, im gonna try to get those ***** off the wiper/ lights to get behind the cluster and figure out the cruise / rpm gauge probs uhhh!!!!
l8r!!

oops sorry GPS let me clarify,
where is the boost pressure sensor installed?? not the gauge
