I got great deal on a Audiosvox 10.2 drop down DVD player for m 05 SCREW. Mounting will look like factory. Question is....where is the best or closest 12V connection spot? Is there a 12V by the front overhead light?
Im not too sure but I would venture to guesst hat any 12V+ power source located near the overhead light would be switched. Now if your truck has an overhead rail option (installed or not) They might have it pre wired and if thats thecase you would have one up there. Someone who has the same type of truck you have would know more info then myself...but then again..I dont even know what type of truck you do have. That info might help a bit.
I amnot ooking to hook the DVD player up to the Head Unit and the Aux. button. Just need 12V power, switched or not, to power the unit. It will look like the factory installed unit ont he rail, I just need to find 12v power....Has nobody else hooked up an after maket DVD in the F150?
Jimy, I have an FX4 with overhead rail and DVD player. If you remove the large bin from the front of the rail system, there should be a small square hole in the headliner. Inside that hole toward the front you should find a three wire connector taped to the back side of the headliner. That connector has 12V, 12V switched, and ground. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for your wiring response. You indicated one of the aux. power connectors wire is 12v, 12v switched and ground. Do you know which one is the 12v switched vs. 12v always? When I look at the wiring diagram, PIN 3 is ground but the diagram of the connector downloaded from FTE states "Voltage supplied in Start and Run, overload protected" for both PIN 1 and 2?
test them with a volt meter - that's prolly the quickest way. make sure you open and close your door to find out for sure which one is switched.... (radio delay???)
I have no probelm testing them with a voltmeter, but the only difference in the wiring diagram is one is 18 guage and the other is 20 guage? I am not sure if I want the DVD player to be on 12v switched or 12v always........ The big questionis how to loosen the connector off the headliner? It is taped or gluded down. I have not been able to get a flash light to verify how it is tied down. It appears to have a cap on it.
I'll try to check to find out the colors for you ( we supply the railport and overhead system)
there is a retainer/cap that stays glued. you can pinch a tab in the connector and slide it (to the left?) to get it out of the retainer/cap
in your manual there should be a drawing showing how to pinch and release the connector.
your dvd should require both, 12V always for movie memory( starts back up where left off when restarting truck) , and 12 switched to power down the dvd to save the battery when you leave the truck.
Thanks Ramb. I do not have the factory DVD. Aftermarket. I only have two power wires 12v and ground. The instructions even indicate you only need to hook to the 12v and ground and state that it should only be when "acc is on or run positon."
Thanks for everyone who replied. All installed, works great and looks good. Not as perfect as factory, but I thinkg the unit is better. It is 10.2" screen. Has remote, wireless headphones, game adapter , etc... Hooked into the 12V outlet above the rail and then hooke dinto the front dome lights. Dome lights on unit work the same as as the other dome lights and DVD only works on ACC or when turned on. FM modulator also included, and works good. Over all, for $496, great deal..............
