Diesel Swap

I'm trying to talk my dad outta his '86 F250 w/6.9 so I can swap it into my '84 Bronco (all the issues for the weight gain will be addressed)

All I want to know is how difficult it'd be, seeing as both rigs are from the same production run.

Thanks,

If you swap over everything from the firewall forward, it should be fine.

Me, I'd approach this a little differently. I'd measure the two wheel bases, then cut the measurement difference out of the middle of the F250's frame, weld the front and back back together, and slap the Bronco body on it. Have the driveshaft cut down, welded and balanced by a reputable driveline shop and you're good to go.

Then you wouldn't have to deal with figuring out what suspension pieces will fit, what doesn't cross over, what has to be made, bent, hammered, etc.

This is assuming you have eight jackstands, several friends to help shift things around, a reasonably flat surface to work on (garage floor), and can weld with confidence.

This is not a welding job for a "Hi, I'm Mike, and I bought a welder today and didn't read the manual yet!" type of guy

It's going to be a serious off roader so the truck'll be beefed up where needed (bracing, boxing etc.), it's going to have leaf sprung 60s from another one ton So I'm not worried in that part.

I've got a 1500sq. ft. shop for all of this and many friends to help.

and can weld with confidence
I've been doing my own welding for the past four years and am very good at what I do, (I suck with a TIG though).

BUT thanks for your insight, and thank you for not saying, "don't bother with it because it can't be done."
