Well guys, my little Bronco II in the past couple of weeks has been whining and it's getting worse. The sound it makes sounds an aweful lot like the PS pump when it's low on juice and when it's churning or whatever it does, but that's not the problem.. I wish it were. When I'm driving I hear it everyonce and a while, and when the tranny shifts (auto) I hear a little "er" sound from the same place the whining is coming from (which sounds like passenger side engine bay, but there's nothing there.. might just be the way it sounds though). The main time that I hear it though is when I'm in reverse going out of the driveway and it sounds like it's spooling up, and when I put it in drive from reverse it starts whining some more untill I start going and it slowly goes away.
I'm going to check codes tomorow when I get back home, I'm at my mom's house now and figured I'd get a few answers to come back to and try to figure it out. Is it possible this could be the torque converter? Or something with the tranny, maybe even the transfer case? I'm pretty sure it's not engine because it doesn't do it in neutral or park. What else could it be? Thanks.
Romer get a good repair manual!! HEHE sorry. Look on the back side of the t-case you will see 2 plugs ,1 on the lower left side'one at about the middle of the t-case about 2 inches higher. Thats the one you take out to check the fluied level. If it runs out or you can feel it with your little finger its fine,if not add tranny fluied till full.I think yours takes Type F atf.
also it might be a good idea to check the fluids in the differentials as sounds and vibrations tend to travel away from what the actual problem + your already down there :P
