Does anyone have a rough chronology of the inline 6 engines?
I'm looking to find out what years they were available and what size
engines were available in those years and what year was the last
year they were available. Also were they available in other models
besides the f150 ( i.e. the f250 or larger).
I'd also like to know when they went from carb to efi and if the
initial efi was a central injector on a throttle body or if they
were always multi-port injectors.
The 300 was the only I-6 to get FI. It went injected in 1986 and has always been multiport injection. The 300 saw life from '65 to '96 in everything from stationary apps to F-100's to 350's and bigger (garbage trucks and the such).
used in f100 to f350 then used in f 500 c series and a list of others from, water pumps, school buses, generator engines, and used in a lot of different things.
the 300 only went to efi in 1987. it was used for auto purposes until 1996. it was still produced for industrial purposes until 2000. Some industrial versions ran on propane, thus when u go to a parts store the propane version will come up in parts books.

This is the best info that I've been able to gather, I haven't had the chance to update for a little while, but I'm hoping to add a few more pics.

They were around for a long time, just remember the early heads if used with unleaded
gasoline would pull the valves down into the ports. They need to have seats installed
