Hello,
I'm Having Problem With The Tranny On My 98 150 With 120k Miles Shifts Hard Almost Slams When It Shifts From 2nd To 3rd Gear. All The Other Shifts Are Normal. The Local Auto Trans Guy Changed The Fluid And Filter But No Change He Belives Im Heading To Failure Of Third Gear And A Rebuild . Any One Have Another Thought.
The Pan Was Droped As Well As The Converter Drained, He Said He Found Debris. I Have Had It Flushed Twice At Ford Dealer About 40 K Miles Apart In The Past. Their was no mention of a power flush. Infact he thought that the ford dealer flush was nogood because they don't drop the pan and change the filter. I have noticed that the shift is smoother when under heavier acceleration.
Has the OD light on the end of the gear shift lever ever flashed? This indicates a problem, but I can't remember if it's mechanical or electronic.
Probably electronic.
I Tried Disconecting The Battery No Change. Is It Possible That Their Is A Electronic Malfunction? It Almost Acts Like I Left The Shifter In Second And Then Moved It To Drive Allowing It To Shift Later Than It Normaly Would And Under Heaver Load Or When My Foot Heavy It Shifts Smoother. Once In A While It Down Shifts Hard Under Lighter Load. I Drove Up The Road Today With A Load Of Fire Wood And It Shifted Fine Later With A Load Of Groceries It Acted Up. Go Figure.
My 98 F150 4.6 L v8 (70k miles), is having similar problems. It shifts hard and the OD light will flash. However, if i use a heavy foot the problem seems to be worse. If I baby it and use a real soft foot, & real slow acceleration I don't experience the hard shift. Any suggestions? Somone told me to check out the modulator?
