Would it be harmful to run red fuel in my truck? Its an 05' The only difference is red dye right. I had a friend that has the same truck as me and his just stopped on him one day. It turned out to be a bad fuel pump and 3 bad injectors. Thay told him it was because he burned red fuel and they would not warrenty it. I just can't believe that red fuel would do that.
Red fuel (off-road) is not placed under the same stringent quality standards as on-road diesel, in many cases. Also, the red fuel may have a much higher sulfur content (an order of magnitude higher).
Ford specifically states that they won't extend warranty coverage if you've burned red fuel. And getting the dye out of the system takes a lot of work. Personally, I wouldn't even try it.
I have a question on this one. With the goverment saying it was OK to run red fuel until september 15th and because of shortages some stations got red fuel.
I don't have anyone near me that will let you fill with off-road so I can't get it but what if a station had it and I did not even know do you think FORD would honor there side of things? I say no. that would be there out.
As a farmer who uses red fuel. It is the same fuel with a lot higher sulfur content. As far as I know that is the only difference. If you got red from a fuel station during the red time and you have your receipt during the exception period and purchased the fuel in qualifying state then I don't think ford could say much.

In fairness to Ford they have a right to specify what type of fuel you use (just like they do with the oil etc.)
It isn't really their fault that fuel stations are unable to provide fuel of that quality.
I agree Bigf350. I was just wondering since some stations got red fuel during Katrina that we may fill up with red and not even know until we check our filters. It would suck if one unknown fill up voided the warranty. I know guys who use red fuel all the time. I don't I can't see risking my warranty/engine for a fuel savings.
This post kind of wrries me. I have been doing alot of travelling around North Carolina lately and I know that on several occassions when I filled up, I received a full tank load of the red dyed diesel. These were not from small filling stations either. They were all large truck stops along the hwy 85 corridor between Charlotte and Raleigh. If anyone happens to know why they are using the red dyed diesel around here it would be greatly appreciated if you would tell me. I just don't understand it.
