I posted this under SD/HD (at least I think I did) in error. This is my first post so "Hi" to all.
I'm trying to replace the glow plugs in my 1995 PSD and I can't get the passenger side valve cover to clear the rocker arms so I can remove it. The transmission dipstick tube and some kind of canister on the rear, outboard side of the valve cover are in the way. Are there any tricks or techniques I can use to get that cover off? I read on here where you should lift the back of the cover off first but that's not getting the job done. It still won't clear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Information on this site got me this far and I thank ya'll for that.
lift the rear up a little then the front then pull it out. it will come. dont force it. it comes out very easy. its like a puzzle.

You need to pull the silver heat insulation off the heater core box. Then you will see a little plastic box maybe 2" thick 4" high and 4" long with a little rubber hose going into it. Remove the little hose and use a 5/16 nutdriver (im pretty sure tahts what size the screws are) to take the box loose (2 screws). With a little wiggling the valve cover should come out now fairly easy.
Thanks for the replies. I tried lifting the back end wigglin' this way and that but I couldn't get it off. Maybe there's a trick to it but I couldn't figure it out. If I removed the box with the siver insulation on it, I'm sure it would have come off but removing that box seemed like a little more than I wanted to tackle.
I did get all 8 glow plugs changed. I was able to rotate the valve cover outboard and down enough to get at the glow plugs. The one all the way back against the firewall was a toughy but I had just enough room to get it done. Craftsman 1/4 inch drive 10mm deep with a long extension and I was just able to get in.
Now all I have to do is get that last valve cover bolt tightened down in the back. I got if off so I guess I should be able to get it back on but I'm not having much luck with it.
6" extension and a 1/2" swivel socket. The bolt is 13mm metric but the head will fit tightly into the 1/2" six point socket. The extension runs along the corner between the firewall and the heater box sticking straight up, put your ratchet on and have at it. A short socket and a universal joint are too long to fit, you will need the swivel socket.
If you need a picture of how things sit let me know.
