Interesting! I'm wondering how they compare to the timesert insert as far as performance and ease of installation. Lots of people on here sware by the timeserts. Either way the inserts seem far better than getting gouged by Ford to fix it.

Well gouged might be an overstatement when it comes to this particular thread repair. I bought mine, and it cost me 409 bucks for the entire kit. Well worth it though! They are awesome! The installation process it pretty easy. The problem with the timeserts is that they are made of carbon steel. They don't expand the same as aluminum, so they are more prone to fail, and you end up with the same problem over again. The lock and stitch inserts are made of anodized aluminum, so they will expand the same as your head through the heat range and they are stronger than the stock aluminum threads because they anodized. Great product. I also like their system of locking the thread in. It is a lot better than the timeserts.

Did you have to repair a rear plug? If so, how did you get in there to repair it, or did you remove the heads?

i also went and read their site some more thats a nice crack stiching kit they have and that could help me mend the block in my 53 better so i can keep the numbers matching that i have now.
great site thanks again man

Your welcome! I'm really glad this informatin helped someone! Remember, with this kit you need to get different spark plugs. They need to be ones with more threads. Call them and they should be able to tell you the part number for the new plugs. I forgot which ones they were.

Hey Dwinn! I had my heads off when I did this procedure. It was a relatively involved procedure, but it went quick. Time flys when your tapping threads. The kit is very easy to use. You just need a drill, and some time. You can however do this with the heads in the block. You just need to put thick grease on your reamer and your tap to keep the shavings out of the cylinders. the company supplies all of the hardware needed to complete the procedure. they will ask you if you are doing this with the heads in frame or not. I'm not sure if they give you different tools if the heads are in the truck. I put the lock n stitch thread inserts on all of my plug holes. I didn't want to have any problems in the fututre. In all, I would say it takes about 15-30 min per plug hole. After the first couple, you really get on a roll, and it starts taking only about 10 min per hole.

BTW Dwinn, if you are going to do this while the heads are in, it is not as hard as you may think. You just have to unclip the injectors and get some of that wiring harness out of the way. Remeber, the COP bolts are 7mm. You will need a swivel socket for the plugs in the rear. the thread inserts come with an alignment dowel, so there is no worry whether the threads you are tapping are straight. Good luck!!
