I work in fire/ems and our mechanic recomended a product called Sea Foam. Apparently it was developed by evenrude to clean out their small two stroke boat engines. Well he recommends one bottle in each gas tank, one bottle in the engine oil and one bottle sucked in through a carb vacuum hose... all on a warm engine... then run it hard for a while. Any opinions?
Sea Foam is miracle juice. Used it on an old Honda bike that had been run hard for many years. Poured 1/3 a can into the 5 gallon tank of gas, revved to redline for awhile, and watched as pieces of crud flew out of the exhaust. Could instantly hear it idle smoother. Get up and go was dramatically improved too. One can for a full size truck tank sounds about right. Haven't used it in the tranny or crankcase yet, so let me know what it does there.
Sea Foam works pretty good, the best way to use it is pouring it into your carb while its running. Just follow the directions on the can. It will tell you to stall the engine with it and let it sit for a while. When you re-start your engine it will smoke terribly for a while, but it works well.
Wrangler,
Never heard of "Sea Foam". But I have heard of some ways to clean out a motor.
1. Drain oil and replace with tranny fluid. Run for 500 miles and drain. Do not do this if vehicle burns oil.
2. Block off radiator and run engine until motor runs very hot. Pour Windex window cleaner into carb while revving engine. This will remove carbon from combustion chamber. Worked great on a chrysler 2.2 charger.
These tricks don't always work. So don't try this at home.
