I have not seen any custom hoods but would like to get one for my 69. Looks like the only way is to do it yourself by cutting and welding. Let`s hope someone does it and we can see what it looks like.
This is a 74 but I thought I would show it anyway, someone gave me a piece
of a fox body mustang hood that had been in a wreck, so I repaired it and
cut the hood out, and installed it from under the bottom of hood, it turned
out real good! heres some links ,please take a look!
I made mine using a harwood cowl. I used a panel adhesive and mounted it to my hood. also used rivets for security. after all set up, i ground a taper on the edge, then i used fiberglass mesh and resin over the mating surface. then smoothed out with glass filler. Will find some pics tonight when i get home. I dont think it turned out to bad.
Here is a link to some old photos, but you get the general idea of how it looks. http://www.clubhotrod.com/photopost/...at=500&thumb=1
Aren't there 73-79 hoods made with the scoops by one of the fiberglass body part makers. Unless you were trying to keep the center ridge of our hoods, you could adapt one of these. I can't find them right now, but I will keep looking. Unless someone has that information at hand. I always thought the Boss 429 hood scoop looked like it belonged on our trucks. It is the right width and length to complement our hoods.
Yeah, that was one of them. Seems like there was another one that made just the hood with the scoop. I like the GT500 scoop also, or maybe a nostalgic Thunderbolt teardrop scoop. This is one of them. http://www.up22.com/ranger.htm#FD-794

Reason: add information
those look good and all but its still the chevy style cowl and to me it just isnt right but there's nothing else available. usbody only has the scoop on the full front end and i talked with them about 6 months ago and they said thay have no plans to make they're scoop available on just a hood. bummer cause it looks great.
4 Cammer72, I do see your point, but to me the one that I built does not
have the center rib down the scoop. I did build this hood for a truck that
I had planed to sell. To me I think that the ones without the rib down the
center look like the ones that are on the 79 mustang Indy pace car, my 65
will get the 69 boss scoop!
P.S there is some one making the 73-79 ford truck hood with the 79
mustang Indy scoop molded on. I saw one at a truck show.
i took another look at it pro- and i see what you mean. i hope you didnt think i was bashing anyone that uses those. it does look like the stang. i guess im so used to looking at the z28 style cowl hoods on everything that anything even remotely shaped like it kind of blends in to that mold for me. i just wish somebody had one that would just pop for our trucks. we need something that really fits the style of our trucks. i do like the shaker style though.....alot!
