1963 ranchero engine size

I recently bought a 63 ranchero for 100 bucks and it has the stock inline six I was told that it was a 140 cu in or a 170 cu in. Is there anyway that I can tell the difference between the two without going internal.(Vin #, bolts on the valve cover, etc.) I am pretty sure that the entire car is stock except for the wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The Vin is: 3R27S166535

TY

if your car is all origional, the "S" in the V.I.N. decodes to a 144 cubic inch 6 cylinder
