Towing/Pulling

Howdy all!
I have a few questions about towing;
One of my co-workers has a 1991 Grand Marquis that he needs towed about 65 mi ,the majority of the trip will be on the interstate,to his parent's garage to work on it. It will be on a car trailer, total weight ,I would guess would be around 4600lbs,I may be off on the total weight.
My buddy, another co-worker has offered to pull the car for him,his truck in question is a 1985 chevy c20 8600gvr rating,350 engine bored +030 thm 400 tranny,14bolt rear 4.10 axle ratio.
I have offered to pull the car for him as well,my truck is a 1981 F 150 custom
302 engine, AOD tranny 9" rear 3.25 axle ratio 5250 gvr.
My buddy and I have a friendly "fight" going on here as to who's truck will pull the car the easiest down the highway,he believes his truck will because of the engine/tranny/ 8600 gvr/axle ratio.
Of course,I think my truck especially at highway speeds because of the 3.25 rear ratio and AOD tranny,in other words,I have overdrive and he doesn't.
So,what does every one think, whos truck will do the job easier and with the least amount of wear & tear?
Any and all answers will be appreciated, and advice followed.

Let's see...

A 302 with 3.25 gears and an AOD vs. a 350 with 4.10 gears and a thm400.

I hate to say it, but the chevy wins. The 302 just doesn't make enough low end torque to be able to pull that load. You'd be lucky to hit 60 - forget about even using overdrive. If you have 4.10's it would be closer, but the 350 is just too many cubes.

Yep, hate to say it but yours doesn't stand up. Like Andym says with that engine, trans and gear combination it won't stand a chance. You will probably do more harm trying it then it's worth.

You can certainly tow with this combo. I have and my truck was close to this combo when I made three trips hauling my cars + engines and trannies in the bed. At that time I had a 302, c6, 3.50 gears with 33 inch tires.

But it's not the ideal situation. The 302 is a very small engine, so it takes awhile to get there. And I did turn my tranny fluid brown. I changed it, and no harm done(that was 5 years ago), but now I have a tranny cooler, and a 351w

The worst case I had when I was hauling with the 302 in my truck was another 302 and a 305 chevy engines + a c4 tranny in the bed, and a 65 mustang on the trailer, with a bunch of misc parts in the mustang. I had to travel about 60 miles.

Thanks to all who answered!

Will my buddy in his cheby (ha,ha) be able to reach the posted speed limit of 70mph on the interstate with his truck?

Also, the early AOD's don't have a direct drive gear (at least my 82 doesn't) so you are either in 3rd or overdrive, and at least with my 3.55 rear axle, is too high or low rpm's while towing in the 55-60 mph range.

Is the Marquis going to be on a trailer? Or are you towing it with a towbar?

If it's wheels down be sure to check the Merc's manual to see what it says about towing.
