tuning this 390

hello everyone it has been a long time. but now i am back and stronger then ever so while i am feeling good i want to work really hard on my 69 F-100

i built a 390 and put in it.

30 over
941 crane cam
headers
360 pistons
about 10 - 1 comp
carter AFB

now i need to get it tuned up

i need to set the timing and fuel and so on

what is a good place to start

i am thinking the timing. where should i set that? What are some number that anyone else is running?

thanks

Have you had the motor running already and now it's time to fine tune? Start with gettin gthe timing set up, then go from there. Refresh my memory, where you're located, that will affect your timing of course....

Now is when the fun really begins!

I'd start with, oh, 15 degrees initial, and see if you can set your distributor for 24 degrees mechanical advance. Total should be somewhere around 38 degrees, all in by around 3000rpm. That's where I have my distributor set anyway. That cam does like more initial timing to get it to idle smooth. Use the vacuum advance if you have it.

Timing is one of those things you kind of have to play around with. Every motor is a little different.
