Cool Craftsman Leaf Blower Throttle Shaft

Does anyone know if you can buy a throttle shaft for a 2-cycle Craftsman leaf blower? I was using mine today and it started running like crap, all of a sudden while it was running at full throttle. I stopped it immediately and discovered the throttle shaft had snapped in half inside the throttle bore. I looked in the owners manual, and all they show for a replacement is a whole carburetor assembly. I proceeded to take it apart to find it looks like a very simple fix, if only I can buy the throttle shaft. I hate to put a new carb on it because it has always run perfectly up to this point. Any ideas?

What's the model number? You can go to www.sears.com , click on parts. They have a pretty good data base that even has an inventory of your local service center or you can print exploded views. Use the model number to find the part number, then back out and start over from the main search page with that part number. For some reason I get better results that way. They should have it.

Model # 358.797342. I haven't tried the website yet, but there is an exploded view in the owners manual of the engine, but it only shows the carb assembly as a whole unit. THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY.

Yep, things like ryobi and Tecumseh. If Sears makes a knock off of whatever you have, they usually have parts for it. Just have to search a bit to get the cross reference.

Your blower you got there is a poulan weedeater brand before you put a lot of time in it check to see if the cylinder came loose Im a poulan dealer and have had over a hundred of them in the last two years come in my shop some with throttle shaft failure others whole carbs and mufflers loose but all of them had the cylinders loose that has got to be the worst blower ever made they dont even come past my counter with out being checked first

I just checked and I've got one of those, too... The problem I've had with mine is the starter cord return. I've fixed it a couple times now. I've never looked at the thing mechanically.

Guess I better check it. Hey Glenn, anything to do for the problems, other than reseat the bolts with a little locktite?

howdy I have only had to fix one rewind under warranty on one of those blowers most people wont pay the cost to rip one down to repair them.If you have it apart then I would not only put loctite on the recoil bolts but put some on the two cylinder bolts ,exhaust bolts and intake bolts you should use the red loctite on the cylinder and the exhaust bolts and blue on the rest, are we having fun yet!

I've had mine for about 10 years now and have got pretty good at spliting that plastic case... I remember the first time took a while and I can see where shop time could make it a throw away.

Seems like anything I buy anymore needs work to run well. They should state that right in the owners manual, "Congratulations on the purchase of your new tool! For best results, refer to the exploded diagram our draftsmen have painstakingly drawn with a fat crayon, scanned, faxed and mass copied - attached to to your 3 page manual. Then disassemble the entire tool and reassemble, using proper methods. The results will mean hours of almost trouble free performance. Any questions can be directed to our website or automated service center, 1-800-555-WAIT."

I've got plenty of loctite - Thanks!

Howdy if your blowers 10 yrs old its not the model I was referring to in the previous post there built a lot better than these newer (4yrs to present) poulan weedeater blowers, they dont build em like they use to comes into play here. The new type arent worth putting 45 min to a hour of labor at 60+ dollars to repair a rewind, the older ones $25 to $30 with parts will cover it most of the time.

I've got the 32cc Craftsman blower/vac, (never used the vac part). I started it up today after draining the old gas. It has the black plastic housing. I still see them at the local Sears service center, and they still cost about $100. It's not a screamer, but it does ok for as much as I use it. I remember when I bought it, I really wanted a Stihl backpack blower - glad I didn't spend the cash, but those are nice.

Would the cylinder coming loose be the reason for the throttle shaft snapping in half? I've never messed with such a small engine before. Since I already have it partially apart, should I tear it the rest of the way down and loctite everything? Will that take care of the problem?
