Went to the junkyard today to look for a fuel pump...came home with a 1968 jeepster commando! 150 dollars, best part is,the orginal engine, after some gas dumped down the carb, and a new battery,it turned right over! Once im done with my bronco II 351m project, this is next on my list
That's cool! I just acquired a 1979 LTD. I needed the passenger side glass, and wound up buying a pair of doors... IT's amazing what you find in some of the yards.
thats right after i washed it,it needs some love, the guy who had it last had a old citgo sign as the bed in the back, but all(with 1 exception) of the hard pieces to find are there and are in awesome shape. The one problem im gonna have is finding a tailgate for it,ive called a dozen places ive found online and nothing. Thats gonna be quite the piece to come by!
VERY nice find. I've always thought those were cool. Very cabable as stock wheelers too. Especially with quadratrac. You may want to go back bone stock, but it wouldn't be very hard to fabricate a tailgate that looks close to the original. Providing you have good fab skills and access to the right tools. If the bad tailgate bother you too much? I'll give you $250 for the whole thing. An easy Franklin for your finders fee.
ya eventually i am gonna have to fab a tailgate,i was just hoping to find a nice orginal one somewhere. Ya the guy just wanted to get it out of the salvage yard, they cleaning it up and getting rid of alot of stuff, gave him the 150 on the spot!
Did it have a title? Are you friends with the owners/workers? That sounds too good to be true. That Jeep looks pretty decent on the side that is shown. I like kicking around junk yards, but I just don't have the time to do so.
