Hey, tell me more about securing your network, how you do it, what happens if you don't, etc. I'm totally clueless about computer crap. I have a linksys wireless router and the laptops have built in wireless. Can people just use your connection if you don't secure it or can they hack into your junk too? Can you fortify your signal with pallets???

You have the same router that we do Ivan, Go to the routers web site and set the settings to require a password, I dont have a Winblows machine, so cant help you with security settings and access from the computer side, but can help with the router side.

Looks like you did okay. For work, I had to buy my own 60 dollar cat-5 crimper. The other day I saw a package of 25 cat-5 ends for TWELVE dollars at Staples. I about fainted that was so expensive.

That's a nice little switch you bought, compact, no config required.

I've gone war driving a few times (turn the laptop on and set it searching for open WiFi networks while you drive around.) There's a few programs out there that you can use to link with your mobile GPS and map the whole thing (a GPS is the one thing I'm asking for for Christmas...)

Check into getting the Delorme Topo program. It does 3D view and has many of the logging roads on it that you have down there. For $200 you get great software and a GPS, (if Santa's listening.)

One thing about my wireless connection is that it's fairly weak. I get a very low signal in my garage so I don't think people out on the street are gonna get much use out of it. Maaaaybe the next dooe neighbors but that's about all.
