'53 flattie starting trouble
Starting over on checking the basics on my Merc engine in the '53 F100. Checked compression on all cylinders, ranged from 80 to 95 with a cheap and old compression guage. BUT, no compression at all on #2. Stuck valve? Seems like it wants to suck a bit, but...
Stuck exhaust valve? Hole in piston? Safe to continue to try to start?

Probably a stuck valve, common on Flatty's. Mine sat for 4 years and it had several stuck valves. I took the plugs out and sprayed PB blaster penetrating oil in and let it sit for a day. Finally got it runnung and then put some Marvel down thru the carb. Helps lube the valves.

I Had A Mercury Flathead V8 In My 48 When I Got It.i Cleaned The Points Hooked Up A Electric Fuel Pump And Cleaned The Carb.i Was Amazed That It Started.it Had Stuck Valves.i Poured Tranny Fluid In The Carb. It Worked.i Wish I'd Kept It.
