The morons that owned the shop didn't even know how to strap the trucks down correctly. Instead of crossing the straps, they were just bringing them straight back and the rear ends of the trucks were walking all over the place, almost touching the ground and some points and other miscellaneous stupidity. The hall effect sensors on the dyno kept giving problems from being covered in diesel soot, and when they took them off to clean them they didn't get them realigned correctly and took them 2 hours to get it working again. They were also loading the trucks by GVWR, not actual weight! As you can imagine, this brought up some interesting issues when the 1-tons started running.
Dyno operators.
So many, yet so few who have a clue.

"We do indy cars" LOL
What the F does that have to do with diesel trucks.

Anyone can slap a car on the dyno and make a pull.
Most people have no clue how to obtain proper data, read it, control the test, etc...

Hell, at an event like that, they should have made (for each truck) two inertia pulls, and two loaded pulls measured by a percent, just to make it easy and CONSISTENT.

When we got a superflow dyno, they flew their rep to us for training, but thats not enough.
You need to be a junkie, very particular and have a serious desire to perfect (even though you never will perfect it) the art of dyno testing/tuning.
Ever see the look of most dyno operators when they look at the data sheet?

duhhhh.

The truly funny part was that the ones that got runs, didn't get a graph. They only gave them a printout with a "peak" estimated horsepower and torque, of which they screwed up the calculations anyways! (Their correction factor was far from SAE standard- it was horrid)

The whole thing was pretty much a joke.

But yes, John is right. It gave me something to do

So lets put out a search for a good dyno that would be central to us here. I contacted Lockwood near me. See how that works out and do a test run to check out the facilities.....from what I hear Mustang dyno is ....well....junk
