Wife's at it again...
So, let's see. 2 hours in a plane, or 20 in a car.
Just tell her that if you fly that will mean 18 extra hours of gambling, eating, sleeping, siteseeing, or what ever else you want..
Also buying her some expensive jewelry wouldn't hurt.. LOL
Driving ? Why ?
I got us cheap flights out of Calgary $579.00 return for 2 with Westjet.
We're going to LV for a couple of days then Sedona for a week.
Headed to Laughlin (land of the $19.00 a night Hotel ) on the 21st.
If you're just into gambling Laughlin is only an 1 1/2 hr from Vegas and has the best payouts and best deals on hotels.
If Mama ain't happy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Play along and give in to her wish, after 15 hours she will realize what a mistake and make her owe you one big time, like truck or motor parts.
.....=o&o>.....
but check the weather first- could be real nasty.I'd go I-5 to Seattle, I-90 East to US97, South to Yakima, then East on I-84 to Salt Lake City, then south on I-15. Depending on how fast you drive, you could average.....well, a pretty good clip.
Anywho, have fun! Great place to be.
i just got back from there last night , flying was the only way less then 5 hours from newark nj.
Dennis, my buddy from work is going down on Alaska or Horizon the day before you.
Anyways, Polarbear, or anybody else on his suggested route, how bad is the snow going that way? I already looked into the I 80 route, and supposedly that's a long long climb in real bad snow. The Coquihalla up here is already expecting 2 feet overnight, so I imagine December will be even worse for any mountain passes down there.
While at my in-laws for dinner last night, I couldn't get a straight answer from the parents. Drive or fly. They said "yeah, there's lots of neat little towns you can stop in, but most of the drive was real boring. On the way home, we drove up the coast." The dad said it would be cheaper to fly, but they're thinking of driving down themselves in February. So I can take their advice and throw it out the window, cause whatever they tell me just cancels out what they just said.
I guess I could just drive anyway, and put up with it, and expect a big payback when we return, but why should I wait for it? We're gone for 2 weeks, but ...
Another thing, my work buddy and I were crunching numbers today, and we figured at least $250 on gas one way. Doing the math, $500 return, it's almost the same as 2 plane tickets return. But to get the cheap hotels, we'd have to get the air and hotel package. I'm sure we could walk into any hotel and get a pretty good rate, but I'm not gonna tell my wife that.
Mapquest says 20 hours. I'm sure that's with no traffic. How do they come up with the times? 20 hours is 20 hours, but driving in snow slows you down. I don't really like driving at night anymore, so that means we'll be stopping somewhere, throw the snow in and we'll be stopping twice. So 3 days on the road is not gonna make me happy.
I don't have a problem driving in the summer time for a road trip like that. Heck, we went to Saskatchewan last year. 3 days there, 3 back.
The thing that is scaring me though is we're planning another Vegas trip for spring break with my buddy and his wife. (She's a teacher, so she gets spring break off.) So if we do fly this time, will my wife want to drive down in the spring? That ain't gonna happen either. Too much catching up to do, and if we (all 4 of us) drove down together in the spring, well, I don't think any car maker builds a car big enough for 4 people to sit comfortably for that long. I know, I know, it's been done before. Just not by me, and I'm sure not looking forward to it. Don't get me wrong, I love my buddy's wife, but if we get her going on a certain subject, ... I'll just say 3 of us will arrive alive.
However, 4 people in a car might be a bit more bearable. More to talk about, for example. Me and my buddy can just sit in the back and sleep while the women drive.
I'm getting a little off track here aren't I?
But I know my wife will throw that in my face. Fly in December, drive in March. Or the other way around. I'd just rather fly both times. But I'll probably just suck it up and drive this time, and have her owe me one.
But really though, how bad is the snow on Polarbear's route?
The San Remo (will close Jan 1st) it has room at $23 /night.
We stayed there in 03.
The rooms are great & Michelle liked the pool and casino.
I can't say enough about Laughlin. Sunday to Thursday rooms are $19.00 /night.
Here's a link , you don't need to have the flight to get the deals.
