I went to replace the rear main seal that was leaking oil very badly. Bearings were worn so i pulled out the motor to replace them. Crank needed turned and the bores needed honed so long story short im getting a new short block and rebuilding and porting my heads.
it is a 1982 f150, 302. the new short block is from Ford Motorsport. it is a 302 short block with a roller cam.
now i bought a new flywheel since my trucks flywheel has the 28oz balance and this new short block has a 50oz balance. I also bought short pushrods to use with the roller cam and a new distributer gear for the same reason.
My question is with the firing order. is the firing order of this new short block drifferent from the motor that was originally in my truck? Will i have to change the plug wires around? Is there anything else I need to do differently to get this new short block in my truck?
If it's an H.O. 5.0 then it uses the 351W firing order, otherwise it's the same as your old one.
If your truck had the original 302 in it, then it should have been a 50oz. The change occured in '81. Was the rear main seal one-piece or two-piece? They went to the one-piece at the same time.
If it is in fact a 28oz. you'll need to change the balancer as well, unless the new short block comes with one.
