When I picked up my Expedition from the dealer today after an oil change they recommended that I have the transmission flushed as well as the replacing the power steering fluid. I see in the service guide that at 30,000 some transmissions are listed to have the fluid changed.
How do I find out which transmission I have?
It is a 2003 4wd with the 5.4 engine. I have 48,700 on the truck.
If you get a tranny flush make sure it is an inline tranny flush not a hose going down threw the tranny filler tube. If you get the flush wre you put the flush tube down threw the tranny filler tube it does not clean as well because it sucks the fluid out and then mixes withe the new fluid and goes right back down in.
Found this after searching under "which+transmission" :
Go to the Vehicle Certification Label located on the driver's door. Under the barcode, look for "TR". Below "TR" will be the code for the transmission type. "E" = E40D (pre 4R100), "U" = 4R70W.

I don't always flush my tranny, I always drop the pan and replace the filter also, flushing is kinda like changing oil and not changing your filter, it is a good idea though because fluids get dirty, etc. but I flush every 15K, and put in a new filter and fluid every 30K, overkill is good besides it's cheaper than a 3-5k Tranny
ive heard from several transmission guys that repacing the filter is not neccesary
it is not a disposable paper filter like all the others
when they flush the fluid it is pumped in reverse to clean the filter
thats my understanding anyway
