I have a 1998 F-150. The dealer somehow shorted the ABS control head. They have searched the world to find that there is no factory part for a replacement. They were going to rebuild it but Blue Streak America could not test the unit to ensure it was within factory specs. After market parts are not available or they do not measure up to Ford’s specs. It is now three weeks, Ford, and the dealer are trying to figure out what to do. Anybody have the same problem or know of a solution?
I guess that is a possibility. How do I know that the junkyard part is any good? My real concern is the safety issue. Remember the part was shorted by the dealership. Ford said that they do not have to stock replacement parts, since the truck is out of its warranty period.
normally if the truck was not wrecked just rusted out the part would be good, even if it was wrecked the part is probably good. On parts like that most junk yards will warrenty the part just charge alittle bit more. Did you try contacting another dealer to see if they can get the part? Maybe this dealer is jerking you around. anyway if the dealer can't fix it they have to get you another vehicle or somthing, right now they should be suppling you with a loaner or rental.
they should support the truck for at least 10 years and maybe longer so the dealer is telling you a whole lot of crap I worked in ford parts for a while and kow alot about the parts side of ford. So tell yuor dealer ot cough up the money to have the part over nighted from a ford whare house and have the part put in. They broke it they fix it. Tell them its not nice to lie to the customer.
Are you ready for this . . . . I talked to Ford (that is another story for a long, long post), The OEM filed BK some time ago. Ford’s obsolete part dept. was no help. They claim that the failure rate is so low that this is the first case where they have not been able to resolve the issue.
