ok ok, i know this is as simple a question as any could ask but i couldn't find anything in a google search.
can you visually look at a glow plug and tell if it is shorting out? or do you have to put a multi-meter on it? i was just curious as the g/p's i just pulled looked fairly good considering 204K miles and didnt see anything that looked like they were messed up
no i will NOT be using them again, i was just kind of curious
you can hook em up to a battery with jumper cables and see if they start to glow.
obviously the tip of it is positive and the outer casing below threads is the negative.
be careful they get glowing red in about 2 seconds
they are actually shorting out all the time thats what creates the heat. its when there not shorting out that theres a problem. usually its internal where the power incoming line burns internally and the element fails. if you discect them you can see the element inside of there.
