I am having a hard time finding an '88 bronco II rear driveshaft. i put one in about 7 years ago and it cost me @ $60.00. i wouldn't mind going with the mod in the future but all i want is a quick inexpensive fix for now. Anyone know of a good source?
Autozone's website claims they sell it for ~$200. I think Napa carries them, too. FWIW, My single cardan u-joint style cost ~$200, too, so I'm not sure that stock style is necessarily inexpensive compared to the modified style (the first time around, anyway). When it comes to cost, the u-joint style will be cheaper in the long run. The next time the joints go bad, you'll only need ~$20+labor to replace a u-joint.
here in north carolina the local ford dealershift has them for a $130 thats the cvc style though.. not one i could torque on or carry in the mud. on my 89 BII i got a universal ds from a 92 or 93 BII for 100 from the local parts yard.
first there are know such things as a 92 93 bronco2 last year it was made was 1990.
i sell single and dual cardan shafts for the b2 from time to time for around 200.
ask armybronco2 how his ds is doing . i work pt for advance auto parts sometimes we sell the ds only as a special order item.
I just did mine on an 86 I put in the cv style I was not into the chances needed to put in u joints but I am sure its a good way to go in the long run like some say. mine feels good for nopw strong as ever should be good for a few years anyways. I got mine at NAPA in BC Canada for 200 Canadian ...$$$$$$ ....Easy replacement, as long as the bolts are not to tight on the shaft ya got in ...HEHE was fun for me to hammer them out ...What a job but it's done and feels so much better and stronger now .....FORD forever...TR
there are 3 different lenths on the ds. pending on yr model. a ds from a 84 BII will have the shortes shaft for the front and longest to the rear end , 86 has the intermediate lenght one, and 89 has the longest one up front and shortest in rear, and i have ownd all three, and if you lift your BII it puts the cvc style in such a bind that it eats it up at the trasmission end bc of the short wheel base, i have busted 3 of them on my 86 at the mud bugs, with 4 inches of lift and 33" tires, i put in a universal and never broke it.
Monty06 is the guy to talk to about driveshafts! I got mine from him and compared to the cv one I had before I got the cardan style from him....there is no comparison!!!! Go w/ the u-joint driveshaft! Save you$$ in the long run
