Help! Rust Problem.

Hi I just bought a 78 F150 and cant wait to have it running. I have a couple rust problems in my way. There is rust on the cab roof where the lip is right above the door, How can I fix this and what materials should I use to reshape the lip. Also the rubber by the front window has rust under it, do I have to take the window out it cure that or does the rubber just come out. Any Infomation will help me.
Thanks,
Matt

Help! Rust Problem.

Check out http://www.por15.com/ A little expensive; buy, a great product. It also depends on how bad the rust is. If you can push a hole through with your finger then you to cut out and replace the bad section. On the other hand light surface rust just sand, prime & paint.

Help! Rust Problem.

Matt,
This is a consistent problem for Ford trucks of this era. You will need a sandblaster and alot of elbow grease. There are at least three pieces of sheet metal welded together at the rain gutter. Getting the rust out is almost impossible. After you have given up on rust removal, treat the area with OSPHO. It is a phosphoric acid that helps seal the metal. Then build the area backup with Dura-Glass Bondo. Its green and reinforced with fiberglass. I fill in the rain gutter solid and then grind a groove back into it afterwards. Because its so high no one can see it anyways. This procedure has lasted me as long as eight years under the best conditions. Remember, never leave your bondo exposed to rain or Dew. It is porous and your finished/screwed before your finished with the job.
Good Luck,
KingFisher

I'm thinkin now, maby I should shave the rain gutters to give it a smoother look, cause my one is pretty bad. Tell me what you think.

Help! Rust Problem.

That is what I am doing on my '79 Supercab. It appears as if it is going to work. What you need to do is cut off a couple of inches at most, MIG weld it, and then do more. This will keep things from crawling around on you as everything is welded together in the drip rail itself. The way the metal is formed, the weld does not have to be real smooth and pretty because it will end up with 0.060-0.125" of filler. The only place where you have to make it nice is above the door.
