Inner intake silencer
I was just checking out another F150 website and someone mentioned that a lot of peolple have had more success modifying and/or removing the inner intake silencer compared to buying an intake like an AirRaid. Unfortunately, that was all the info given. Does anyone know about this?

I removed the intake silencer in the tube on my F150. This only applies if you have the 4.6L. It is in the intake tube and reduces the diameter of it dramatically. Get a firm grip on it with some vice grips and pull like heck and it will come out. You'll feel the gain. Another great one to do (4.6 or 5.4) is to pick up a 3" rubber PVC coupler from your local hardware store and replace the stock intake inlet in the fender with it. You will suck in more air this way (the stock inlet is 2" or less) and you feel the gain. Between the silencer removal and the inlet I have gained over 1 mpg and the power is improved. I can spin 'em good from a stop with 20s and 32 inch tires with my wimpy 3.55 ratio and could not before the intake mods.
