Either Edelbrock's Performer RPM ( reg or air gap) or the older F4B, Ford's C9OX, the newer A321, or Shelby "Cobra" high rise ( the last last 4 are basically the same intakes' just different named) Also a good one is Weiand's Stealth.
baddad457, did you give up on FE's? Its seems from what i gather those intakes are all real close. what about the blue thunder knock offs?, the runners look bigger than the ford A321, i wonder if they taper down in size.
No, still got my 68 Merc with it's 390. I wasn't aware that Blue Thunder made small block intakes. I used the A321 on my "spare" 5.0 and loved it. But of all the ones I listed, there's probably not a 10-15 hp difference between them all. I prefer the A321 types just for nostalgia's sake, it was a good intake back in the 60's and still is. To me it's like a "stock" factory hp intake. Another intake to consider, if you can swing the purchase price (1300-something dollars) is the Mustang Unlimited repro 3x2 with 3 Holley 250 cfm 2bbls. I've got this one on my 331 stroker in my 89 Ranger and it's AWESOME. Both in performance, power and the WOW factor when you raise the hood. My 331 has a 10.4 to 1 comp ratio, Ford Z303 cam with 1.7 roller rockers (.585 lift-228 degree duration @.050), Canfield heads ( these are about the equivalent of AFR165's) and all this dumps into Shelby-type Tri-Y headers. Power comes on at 1500 and it pulls like a freighttrain to 6500, a very smooth torque curve. And for thise who are intimidated by stories of carb setting troubles----- that's all B.S. After tuning and jetting them for the 331 last year, I've never had to touch them, not even once, thru Winter, Spring, Limited Summer driving ( No A/C ) and now back into Fall ( driving it to work now on a 55 mile round trip-daily). And NOTHING ELSE sounds like them at WOT.
