It depends on what you want to use. Make a list.

Dynamic,

Are you asking how to connect something that requires 6V to a 12V system??

If this is true, then you need to put a resistor in series with the 6V items lead.. The resistor needs to be equal value of the accessory(This is just a rough estimate).. If you know the current (AMPS) the circuit is drawing then you can calculate the resistor value by using Ohms Law (E=I*R).. Example: if you know Voltage is 6V and current is 10A then the resistor value needed is .6O ohms (6/10=.6)

This will make 6Volts across the resistor and then 6 Volts at the accessory..

You can test it before you connect the accessory, by connecting the resistor only, then measuring the voltage. This will allow you to fine tune the voltage before connecting and blowing the accessory..

Hope this helps

I have done the resistor thing with a 6 volt wiper motor on a 53 f100. I don't recommend it. It doesn't work very well. On other things such as the blower motor, it would probably work ok.

One option would be to replace the 12V battery with two 6V of about 1/2 capacity each of the original. Install them in series in place of the original. Tap of each battery to your heart's content for 6V stuff (within reason and capacity). Don't know how cheap this would be though.

They also make DC-DC converters, but they aren't very cheap.

The two battery thing is an option. They also make single batteries with taps in the middle for 6 volts. The only problem is you still have to modify your charging system for 12 volts to charge both batteries.

You can buy resistors(I think JCWhitney has them) for the heater blower. What I did was take the old 6 volt fan out of the old heater box, and retro-fitted a later model 12 volt motor in it's place. With a little head scratching, this is an option.

Like I said, the wiper motor/resistor thing did not work for me very well. The problem was that the load on the wiper motor varies so much. If the windshield is dry, the load is very high. If the windshield is wet, the load is less, depending on how wet it is.

A resistor drops voltage depending on how much current is going through it. So if you do not have much load, there is not much voltage drop, so the wipers go really fast. If the windshield starts to get dry, the load goes up, so the voltage drop goes up, so the wipers go very slow. It's very aggravating.

For 1 AMP loads and less, the best solution is to go to Radio Shack or your local electonics store and but a voltage converter. Some common types are 7505 5v; 7506 6V. They look like a large transistor and are very easy to wire up. Instructions are included on the package. If you can solder three leads you are in business. You will need to mount them to a heat sink if you get near the 1A rating. Just FYI, probably wont work for large motors and definatly not heaters.
