just got off the phone with whipple today. here is the latest. they were scheduled to be released last march. they have yet to be released because of a back ordered part. they will be released soon.
evidently an engineer who often is contracted through ford helped whipple calibrate the blower. whipple then took the blower and calibration to ford to have them check it out. ford gave it the go ahead. this to my understanding means that ford racing performance parts will be selling the kit, and will be under warranty. my guess if its ordered and installed per fords specs. i only have one source on this so its not for sure.
will get back to you if i have any other info. there is nice write up about the blower at whipplesuperchargers.com. its producing 475hp and 500tq crank power @ 8psi.
We have been backordered on our compressors since last March so we have not been able to ship any kits. We will start shipping around Nov. 21. We are over 3000 kits backordered at this time. We should be caught up around Jan. The price for the 3 valve is $5495.00 for the complete intercooled system. Our prices are always subject to change. That is what the kit will be sold for. I still have a list of people to notify when we start shipping again. I will make sure you are on the list.
You can order directly through us or any authorized Ford Racing dealer.
Thank you for your interest,
Shonda
I used to work for that engineer up until recently - I never worked on the Whipple stuff though. I can't comment on the hardware but I can say that you'd be hard pressed to fine a system that is better tuned for the vehicle. The engineer doing that work for them is one of the best calibrators in the business.

thats a great vote confidence. thanks. i do have a question though. will the blower need to be dyno tuned once installed?
I don't know anything about "tuning" a blower. But "calibrating" the system means going into the software that runs on the PCM and modifying things so that you optimize the performance and driveability.

Where did you get this information??FORD MOTOR COMPANY, is in NO WAY contracting ANY Engineer to "calibrate" as you call it, any Whipple blower system..Bottom line..Trust me I know these things....
Richtor is not BS'ing it totally jives with what I know of the project.
I believe he is contracted by Ford Racing for this project and he does plenty of other work for Ford as well. He's got his own company - he is not a "Ford" employee - although he used to be. Why would I make this up? Maybe he is subcontracted through Whipple - not sure, but either way that's what's going on.

That sounds a little more believeable. Ford Motor Company would NOT contract anyone to R&D any blower for these motors. If they (we) were interested in such a project, it would be done from within. Enough said??
On a side note, personally I hope that the Whipple aftermarket does become available for them soon. I see that a Company in Texas is about to release an intercooled M112 Eaton/ with intake for the 3 vavle sometime in the next week or so. Although I work for the big blue oval, I still mod the ***** out of all my vehicles so I am very interested in any new blower ( Roush has been out for over a year) that becomes available....
Well I happen to be an Engineer with Ford Motor Company, and have spent several years in, and still have friends in the Power Train Division and keep close tabs on what goes on there, including SVT.

to clarify what i was told. whipple hired a contractor to help them calibrate their new 5.4 3 valve blower. this contractor has also previously done work with ford. whether he was a employee with ford or had also been hired by ford as an indepent contractor i do not know.
then the person i spoke with at whipple told me that after the calibration of this blower, whipple took it to ford(im assuming frpp) to have them look at the new product. ford gave them the go ahead. im not sure what this means.
he also said that ford racing and performance parts will be selling the whipple blower to the public and would not be suprised if ford would continue to honor their warrenty if purchased and installed by a frpp dealer.
this is what i was told. i have not been able to verify these facts. jdew1920 confirmation on some of these facts leads me to believe that whipple did indeed do their homework.
