loose steering after hydro

aight got the truck running finally, but now there is like a 1/3 of a turn for take up before response.

to fix this i adjust the screw on the top of the box that is directly above the pitman arm (on the opposite side of the box), correct?
I havent looked at it in monthes, but i think it has a nut around a screw that you rotate with an allen wrench right?
if im right so far, what do i do again?

ps hydro steering is h4ckz0r

Correct, you'll need to turn loose the lock nut and then tighten the screw, some have a slotted screw head and some have the allen head. Tighten 1/2 turn at a time and then test it because if you go too far it will bind. You'd probably do best to put the front axle up on jackstands while you adjust it. If you tighten it a little too much you'll feel a bind in it.

are you sure your hydro mounts aren't a lil loose? i had the same problem and when i built new mounts with a tighter fit it was almost instant

The pitman arm should still be moving even if there's slop on the hydro ram. A lot of times after reassembling one of those boxes the sector shaft will be out of adjustment.

Yeah its all peachy now... zero slack (well maybe a centimeter of play), perhaps i over-adjusted it? I can hear that the box isnt flowing anything through it until i turn it, so its not stressing. would i feel binding?

You should be good to go. If you put it on the jackstands and cycle all the way from let to right you'd feel the bind were it too tight, even with the hydro assist.

its super sensitive on the higway... bad for a dd with tires smaller than 40", well not bad but you have to be super alert cause its extremely responsive

What size ram are you using and what size lines? Mine is responsive but not overly and it handles well on the freeway.

This doesn't quite pertain to the situation at hand, because it sounds like it was adjusted correctly, but if you DO overtighten the adjustment on the steering box, it'll shred the sector shaft and worm gear right-quick.

I'm running 1.5" ram with 3/8" lines. The 1/4" lines seemed to slow the response a bit. With 3/8 it feels perfect.

1.5" ram -06 hose fittings and hose (approx 1/4" ID hose). Wouldnt a smaller ID hose increase responsiveness?

go_racing how can i tell if its too tight?

no b/c it acts like a bottleneck. it'll restrict the flow. bigger the hose the more fluid can get from point A to point B faster!
