Winter Weather Preparation
Winter Weather Reminder!
Cold Winter temperatures are hard on diesel engines particularly at start-up time! We would like to remind you that extended idling is bad for diesel engines and is not recommended therefore you should prepare your truck and engine for cold starts now and reduce the chances of cold starting problems! Change your engine oil to a lighter recommended viscosity. Many owners swear by synthetics which are more costly. Test your batteries and service the terminals making sure that they are clean and tight. Have your cold starting system, glow plugs and intake air heaters, tested for proper operation. Using either and other starting fluids in a glow plug equipped engine can cause severe damage to the engine and serious bodily injury. Check coolant freeze protection level and service accordingly. Finally, inspect the fuel delivery system, ensure that the filters are within the recommended service interval and keep a quality fuel conditioner on hand. Fuel conditioners will improve fuel flow in cold weather and lower the cloud point reducing gelling/waxing that clogs fuel filters. Many performance formulas and conditioners also have additives that improve ignition quality which may also help cold starting and performance.
Good luck and enjoy your truck this winter (and summer)
Jeff

Winter starting and driving is harder on our motors than the summer. Poor oil flow, fuel with water or worse... gelled is horrible and our batteries are stressed more in the winter than the summer.
It goes without saying that checking, replacing and taking care of our trucks is a year-round task in order to get the most out of them... but again, the cooler and "cold" weather brings out the worse sometimes.
Figured that a new diesel user or one that may not change their fuel filters or use addtives may benefit from this post.
OK.... now I get it... are you making a joke becuase you live in "The Land Down Under" and it doesn't get that cold???
Maybe I need to travel to Bondi Beach, Kings Cross and the Harbor again so we can discuss. Hey, when you post your Ausie accent doen't come through???
Thanks,
Jeff
