Hello im istalling rocker arm shafts on 292 y block im aware that they can be mounted up side down , thats not the problem how ever, I have 4 rocker arms on right side riding of center of valve steam , also same on left side the heads are recon , bye wear marks on matting surface of rocker arm theywere that way to start with. if you move arm away from stachion you can center it on vave steam im missing the problem can anyone help none of the books show washers betwen stanchion and arm. thank you
Some of the rocker arms on my 272 Y-block were off-center as well. Just guessing, but if they are off by more than about 0.100", you likely have a problem. Otherwise, my engine didn't seem to mind for the many years it ran before I rebuilt it. Here is a photo showing one of the rockers that is off-center after the rebuild.
