So yea im doing the duraspark upgrade and i can get my 84 bronco II to start but only when i retard my timing lots... but once it starts and run i can move the timing to where it is suposed to be and it it runs real good but idles a little high... the problem is after i set the initial timing it wont start unless i retard the timing again. would it have to do with the carb? or the igintion? if anyone has anyidea on what i could do to fix this it would be great thanks..
When you try to crank it with the timing set where is suppose to be what does it do, just spin or does it even try to crank. I'm not sure about a 84 but does it have a vacuum advance on it? I'd have to guess it would be more of an ignition problem not a carb.
It cracks over just fine it just doesnt fire.. and there is vaccume advance but i dotn have it hooked up currently.. if my HEI is bad would it give spark still? i knwo i have lots of spark comming off the coil but very little commign to the plug... im not sure exactly how much spark goes to the plugs.. is it sopose to be close to same amount as the coil gives out?
I never got it to work right when I converted Son's 66 Mustang to Duraspark, but one of the wires is just for starting and sends out a retarded signal.

i'm not sure if it's applicable or not, but my '88 has a shorting plug that must be removed whenever you time it at idle. (disregard if this is common knowledge.)
