That would be go buy another one. On the ones I remember the stator windings would come loose (they are glued in place) eventually they will spin out and no more charging. Could be really bad bearings too.

No matter the cause, if it's draging/grinding you need to replace it they should spin free and quiet.

tanks. i really need to get one. today i drove into work and by the time i got here it really sounded bad. now its klunk, ka-klunk instead of klunk, klunk. i just hope it'll last me to friday before it locks up or something, worst case, they get real warm and start burning!
