problems with 6 bank chip

I installed the bullydog 6 bank chip today and did it by instructions and it said "if wait to start light does not come on reclean the outside conections" in the meantime I pulled the chip and tried to start and the wts light came on and it started. So then I cleaned the connections again and tried it samething. But then when I pulled the chip it would not work that way either. Help please

Were your keys in the ignition while removing the chip?

If they were, it powers up the PCM. When you put your keys in the ignition you get electrical current so it is a good chance you might have ruined the chip and or both chip and PCM.

Keep at it. Under the grease on the PCM connector is a cear coating.....reminds me of shellac. Occasionally it is neccessary to scrape this coating off with a knife in order for the chip to make contact.

If it started fine after you removed the chip the PCM is undamaged.

That stuff is called "conformal coating" in the printed-circuit board industry.

It (hopefully) allows the electronics to continue to work when exposed to high-moisture environments.

Thanks Pop. All I know is it's impossible to get a chip to make contact with the stuff on there.

And the military-grade stuff is even worse, (if that's possible)!

talked to a local diesel tech today and he said that it probally was that I had left the key in the ignition and it send small but destructive signal to the pcm and that is probally what fried mine. Anyway I got a new pcm but it had different code and my truck now works. My old chip I sent back and he said that he tried to reprogram it for my new pcm and it fried his programer. He sent me a new one and hope to install it tomarrow. I wish that bullydog would have that in their instructions. $320=lesson learned.
