Question Carb question for 400

Hi all.

I have a 400 in my 73 f100. of course I don't know what year the 400 came from but it looks to have a motorcraft 2100 2bbl on it with the climatic choke. I hate this carb. I can't get it to idle right. I either get it too fast on cold startup or too slow. I also cannot get the right idle for running temp. To top it off the climatic choke has been wound too tight and then wound down too low. It won't set right within the lean-rich lines, so I have no clue as to where I should really set it.

I don't have the funds right now or I would just get a new intake manifold and a new carb. What do you think I should do... get a "new"(rebuilt or just newer than mine) 2100 or 2150 with electric choke or just try to get a rebuild kit for my craptastic one?

Or should I really save up to get the new intake and a 4bbl?

You could probably convert it to manual choke, to hold you over while saving for the 4BBL and intake.
