can anyone explain why gas is going down but diesel is still 3.24 min around here? seems like the oil guys are getting their money one way or the other.
Gas shortage, bull hockey!
I worked part time at a gas station during the rationing, even-odd BS.
Before that time we received 1 to 3 truck loads per week.
During the "shortage" we received THREE FULL LOADS A DAY.
I know they were full, I lifted the lids on the truck tank before and after the delivery.
Shortage? Hah, makes me laugh.
You let a lie loose to the media and eventually it becomes truth.
Now, this time, yes, there may very well indeed be shortages because the tree huggers are running EPA and haven't allowed a new refinery in a long time.
I really love my diesel but we need to work on alternative fuels.
There is plenty of WVA out there, someone with bucks needs to tap into that in a big way.

this is sad but true... the media spends more time on a dailly basis trying to influence the way you think about things than actually reporting things to you... and if you don't think that the people in the media lie, just look at Dan Rather..! and he not the only one, he's just one of the few that got caught red handed... and people like us on the internet are the ones that exposed him... he should be in jail..! and look at the reporting from katrina... "there maybe as many as 10,000 dead in New Orleans..." that little piece of fiction was reported as fact and it was completly false... just like the rapes and murders in the Superdome... more lies.... and how much do you think that untrue reporting helped the oil companies jack up the prices...? truthfully, if it weren't for the internet, we would all be in big trouble...! take FTE for example... even on a website dedicated to all things to do with ford trucks, you can still get people on here posting the truth and telling about things that you would NEVER hear on ANY newscast... God Bless America... and God Bless FTE...!

This perhaps the simplest question to answer of all the questions asked about this issue.
Gasoline is down because it's for the most part a discretionary expense of private citizens, and when gas prices jumped to over $3/gal right before labor day people didn't drive as much (I read somewhere that there was as much as a 40% reduction in gas usuage over the labor day weekend vs last year) thus the oil companies figured out very quickly they had reached the breaking point on the price of gas.
Now Diesel on the other hand less than 10% of the usuage us private vehicles (I believe the number is actually 5-8%) that is people like us that own diesel pickups for private use, and even some for our jobs. that means that over 90% of that usage is non discretionary spending. The railroad, and big trucks have to buy it regardless of the price to keep moving, and keep delivering the goods that you want to buy at the store. You know things like FOOD. The railroads burn 10,000,000 gals of diesel a day. on an average semi's probably burn about 100 gallons (very loose figure there based on the ability to get approx 5-6mpg, and driving at 60mph for 10-11 hrs etc) and there is something slightly over 2 million trucks on the road now thus your talking the trucking industry burning 200 million gallons of diesel on a daily bases. So no matter how high the fuel gets the amount purchases isn't going to change much until people quit buying anything brought to them by trucks, and that won't happen until the economy of this country has totally stopped. Thus the reason that the supply, and demand aurguement fails in order for demand to reduce in this country ALL industry must stop totally, and all the trucking companies must start laying off drivers, and parking trucks which means that other like Ford, GM, Maytag, and you local grocery store must also lay off all thier employees thus in order to reduce demand you will end up with 10s of millions of unemployed persons.
and so... in a paragraph or so... mosterbaby explains HOW the oil companies are going to drive this country into a recession and WHY i believe our elected officials have failed us all just to line their own pockets... please pardon me if i find that a little depressing...
We need to contact our U.S Senators and Congressmen/women. If enough people will ring their bell, they will become LESS Silent and we may see some change. I noted that here in Texas, diesel just dropped from $3.59 to $3.19 to $2.89 to $2.69 in less than a week. Demand did not decrease, oil is the same price per barrel. I remember the '70's. I remember most of the oil tanks around our town and on land around us. Most of them stayed full so the Oil companies could say there was a shortage. We all know the rest. Today, the pump jacks do not seem to be pumping as much either. I'm thankful for the drop in price, but we need to not be happy with it stopping at the $2.00 plus price. If we remain silent, then the oil companies will know wht price we are willing to pay!!
My 2 bits.
It still all goes back to what Monsterbaby said. If we keep using it, we'll keep paying.
Price equals demand. There is no way that there will be a drop in diesel usage, how will the groceries get to the store without big rigs burning diesel?
If you can use public transportation or ride a bike, do so. That's about all you can do at this time. I love my diesel but if there were another way to fuel it, I'd do it. Perhaps someone refining WVO is a pertial answer. Don't even say bio-diesel. There ain't enough soybean around to do it on a large scale.
For myself and others, we have to cringe as we pull out the wallet because there is no way to use public trans to get to work, store, etc. Just like the rest, I'm not a cheapskate, truck was $40k+ but I have to combine trips to save fuel.
I watched Dirty Jobs on Discovery, they had a guy doing bio at home. Not an option for me, the City Fire Marshall would fine me big time.
For now, biting a big bullet is the course of action when fueling up.
I know this is impossible or maybe not but if EVERY trucker parked and said we're not moving until the price comes down, it would bring this country to a standstill. Then maybe government would listen and break-up these big monopolies called OIL companies. UPS did it when they went on strike. A very large portion of the deliveries in this country stopped and it hurt. People and business noticed and they said do something... and it happened.
There's no problem with oil supply. I don't know a single person that hasn't been able to buy gas for $3 a gallon. Nor have I read any such thing in print. The reason gas rose to $3/gal after Katrina was the oil companies using Katrina as an excuse to up the cost due to "shortages" so that we'd all be happy to now be paying $2.50/gal whereas before Katrina we were complaining about paying $2.25. Katrina was just what the Doctor ordered for the oil companies to not only solidify the price of a gallon of gas but put in a 24% increase at the same time.
It is still over $3 at most places here. The stroker is staying parked much more now. At $120 a fill up, I will wear out the wifes Jeep and the company car first.
for a couple week gas had gotten down to 1.89 and diesel was still at 2.99.
This week you can find a few stations with diesel from 2.45 to 2.69.
Most of the stores still have diesel for 2.99.
I have never seen anything like it. Prices are usually pretty uniform at ever store unless competing corner stores get into it. Something is going on with the diesel market if there is such a price gap between so many different stores on the retail front. WTF???
Heres what you all do;
1. Look for the cheapest gas station in your area
2. Buy your diesel only there
3. Watch prices come down
Here is where to go to find those stations: http://www.dallasgasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D
See where the DALLAS is? Substitute SEATTLE there (or another large city near you) and you will find the cheapest reported in your area.
Also
5. If you find a cheaper station - report it.
key words there.... large city. what about the rest of us. where i live it's more like nearest large town, and that site doesn't list any. I'm only an hour west of chicago. how about this, if you use your truck for work, raise your prices and be SURE to tell your customers why. If you work for someone else and use your truck as a daily driver tell your boss you want a raise and tell him why. We are not as big of a group as those who use gas so we have to tell everyone else about it. If your truck is just for fun or a hobby you really can't complain without someone telling you to get a smaller vehicle like some people here have. I use my truck. also, watch the oasis's on the tollway. the one in dekalb has been as much as .40 cents cheaper, usually .10 to .12 but i've seen .40.
