I have been plagued with warped and cracked exhaust manifolds on my 84 300 I6. I am fed up with spending money on manifold that only last a year or two and having to replace them. I decided I am going to install headers on it, I found a set of Hedmans for $270. Seems like a good deal to me. This question is for you guys running the 300 with headers. Did you need to run specifically header gaskets, or will the stock gaskets work? How difficult were they to install. Tell me about your experiences with installing headers on your inline sixes! Any and all advice is appreciated!
I knew better than to try an exhaust manifold gasket with headers but the old six gasket seems to be made better/different than traditional bent 8 gaskets, so I tried one with my headers, mainly because otherwise I woulda had to order it, none of the local parts stores could even get one, been on there for a couple years no problem. With that said, if you have a couple days, might as well order a gasket designed specifically for headers.
You may wanna get your hands on some steel core collector gaskets (mr. gasket $5-6), I went through a couple standard series (non steel core $2), they'd become brittle within a couple months and fall apart. Went to the steel core and haven't had a problem yet.
Is 270 the best price you found, I have seen them on ebay for under 100, I believe you can get cheaper versions?
Dynomax (standard series) Jegs - $139.99

Thanks alot motorhead, I'll have to check with Jegs on those Dynomax headers too! Were they dual or single outlet? I heard the deadsoft aluminum gaskets held up good too.
I have the same setup as you do a 84 150 with the 6 I installed the hedman headers on my used a stock exhaust gasket from advance auto been there for about 35,000 miles no leaks so far just remember to retorque your manifold bolts after you run it an hour or so should do it just enough to get it hot and let the flange expand and contrat once. The only only problem I have had with mine is it makes getting to the starter diffucult and reroute your starter cable as it may be too close to the tubes and melt the insulation on it.
Good news good news! I found a set of Hedmans for $150 online through Jegs! I found what I'm going to use on my truck now, it sounds like I will be okay with stock manifold gaskets too. Thanks again for your help fellas!
hi, i was jus wondering if anybody made headers for my 1994 F150 300 I6. ive seen the staraight six headers for up to 1991. would it matter if i put the 1991 headers on the 1994 truck?

Seems like they list the same header up to 91 and include some carbed models, do these come with a bung to attach the egr tube and a bung for the O2 sensor? If so, go for it.
However, I am thinking they do not, you can put a non efi header(s) on your efi truck, if you weld a bung in for the egr tube and an O2 bung for the O2 sensor.
Clifford makes a set efi specific. They aren't "long tube", still twice as long as the stock efi manifold runner length, not cheap either.
I have the Clifford shorty headers on my '77 300-6. Their website says they are for '80 and up. The guy I had install them had a hell of a time making them fit my '77, but he did, and they have been great since!
The gasket that I got from Clifford is a really stout material, nearly 1/4" thick, I'm not sure what it is. It sealed my intake / header setup really well, and is only $13.00.
On the same token, I wouldn't recommend their collector gaskets. :P The two I got from Clifford burned out within a week. I went to Autozone and got a set of aluminum collector gaskets, and have been fine since.
BTW: The Clifford shorties came with three bung holes in them. If I recall correctly, one in each collector was 3/4", and one collector had a 1 1/4" hole. I might be off on the sizes, but definately three holes.

Yep, the Clifford headers I purchased, also had a hole for the egr tube then two O2 sensor bungs.
